A fresh wave of economic empowerment is underway in Kano State, as 10,000 less privileged residents across its 44 local government areas are poised to receive N20,000 each through a new intervention programme sponsored by the Deputy President of the Senate.
According to an official statement from his media office, the beneficiary selection process will commence on October 9, 2025, beginning with the distribution of application forms. The initiative will be executed through the Barau I. Jibrin Foundation (BIJF) — a philanthropic organisation established to uplift vulnerable populations and promote sustainable community development.
The structure of the programme ensures equitable representation across the state: 6,500 beneficiaries will be drawn from Kano North Senatorial District, with 500 persons selected from each of its 13 local government areas. Additionally, 112 beneficiaries will be chosen from each local government area in Kano Central and Kano South Senatorial Districts, ensuring widespread coverage.

The Foundation, which has a strong track record of providing postgraduate scholarships abroad for indigent students and delivering other humanitarian projects, described the new empowerment effort as part of its ongoing mission to alleviate poverty and enhance socio-economic wellbeing across the state.
“This initiative complements our numerous interventions in education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and transportation,” the statement explained, highlighting that youth and women empowerment remain key pillars of the Deputy Senate President’s development agenda.
Beyond providing immediate cash relief, the N20,000 disbursement is expected to stimulate grassroots commerce, support small-scale enterprises, and help struggling families meet essential needs. The programme aims to create a ripple effect that strengthens local economies, reduces poverty levels, and promotes inclusive growth across Kano State.
