Ejigbo LCDA Unveils Mega Empowerment Programme, Uplifts 510 Residents and Local Entrepreneurs

The Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Aare Taoheed Adebayo Taiwo (TAT), has officially inaugurated the Mega Empowerment Programme — a comprehensive grassroots initiative aimed at strengthening micro enterprises, assisting vulnerable residents, and deepening economic inclusion across the six political wards within the council.

As part of the programme, 100 small-scale business owners received grants of ₦200,000 each, while 10 young entrepreneurs aged 18 to 30 benefited from the Ejigbo Youth Startup Fund, obtaining ₦500,000 each to launch or scale their ventures. The empowerment scheme further provides ongoing mentorship, investor linkages, and enterprise development support to ensure sustainable business growth.

In total, more than 400 additional residents were equipped with trade tools, capacity-building sessions, and equipment support, bringing the total number of direct beneficiaries to 510 individuals.

Distributed items included deep freezers, pepper grinding machines, vulcanizing kits, hair dryers, ovens, sewing machines, POS terminals with starter capital, barbing clippers with generators, popcorn makers, cobbler tools, Nikon cameras, as well as shawarma and grilling machines.

According to Chairman Taiwo, the empowerment drive is a core component of the council’s S.H.I.E.L.D Agenda, a strategic policy blueprint focused on fostering self-reliance, productivity, and economic independence among residents.

He explained that beneficiaries were carefully chosen based on need assessment, entrepreneurial readiness, and demonstrated capacity to build sustainable livelihoods.

The Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, commended the initiative, describing it as a model of responsive local governance that channels public resources toward tangible community transformation.

He further encouraged beneficiaries to make responsible and productive use of the provided tools and funds, noting that true empowerment is achieved when such opportunities are transformed into lasting business success.
