Eko Fiesta Poised to Fuse Culture and Commerce to Drive Youth Entrepreneurship in Lagos

Organisers of the Eko Fiesta have announced that the three-day celebration, scheduled to take place from December 22 to December 24, will provide a dynamic platform where culture, commerce, and entertainment converge, creating fresh opportunities for small businesses, creatives, and young entrepreneurs across Lagos.

The free-to-attend event is positioned as an inclusive space that captures the vibrant essence of Lagos while actively promoting local talent and enterprise. According to the organisers, the initiative is structured to give small-scale entrepreneurs direct access to a broad and diverse consumer base, helping to stimulate trade, increase brand exposure, and support business expansion during the busy festive period.

They explained that although Lagos is widely recognised for its packed calendar of December concerts and social gatherings, there has been a noticeable absence of platforms that deliberately combine celebration with economic impact. Eko Fiesta, they said, was conceived to fill this gap by intentionally blending entertainment with commerce, networking opportunities, and enterprise development.

Beyond its entertainment appeal, the event is also expected to serve as an economic showcase designed to attract foreign direct investment and reinforce Lagos’ status as a leading African hub for tourism, arts, culture, and the entertainment industry. Organisers noted that the fiesta will spotlight the city’s creative economy while projecting Lagos as a viable destination for investment and cross-cultural engagement.

The concept behind the initiative was inspired by recurring challenges faced by Nigerians in the diaspora and visiting tourists during the festive season, particularly the absence of a central space that integrates cultural experiences, shopping, and networking. The event is expected to highlight emerging creatives, encourage mentorship and collaboration, and provide a civic engagement platform for youths, diaspora communities, and development-oriented organisations.

Representatives of the state government present at the event reaffirmed their commitment to advancing youth empowerment through culture-driven initiatives. They described platforms like Eko Fiesta as essential for unlocking opportunities within entertainment, creative arts, and culturally driven enterprises, assuring stakeholders of continued government support and participation in future editions of the fiesta.

Stakeholders from the financial sector also underscored the importance of the event in driving SME development, noting that their involvement demonstrates a strong commitment to empowering young people and small business owners. They stated that dedicated support teams would be available throughout the three-day event to interact with participants and address various financial needs, especially for entrepreneurs looking to scale operations or formalise their businesses.

Young entrepreneurs taking part in the fiesta expressed optimism about the initiative, describing it as a valuable opportunity to showcase Nigerian craftsmanship, merge local creativity with global trends, and connect directly with new and diverse customer segments.

Organisers concluded that Eko Fiesta represents a broader strategy to leverage culture as a catalyst for economic inclusion, youth employment, and sustainable enterprise growth, particularly for small businesses operating within Lagos’ rapidly expanding creative economy.
