FG Strengthens Skills Economy with Hospitality Training for 100 Youths

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to address unemployment through practical skills development, training 100 youths in hospitality as part of a structured workforce programme. The initiative reflects a wider shift toward competency-based learning as Nigeria adapts to evolving labour market demands.

The training was delivered through the Innovation, Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills programme. It was implemented by Masterminds Catering and Culinary Institute Academy in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education and the World Bank.

Over a six-month period, participants received a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on practical experience designed to prepare them for real industry demands.

  • Culinary and catering operations
  • Hospitality service delivery
  • Practical workplace simulations
  • Business and entrepreneurial readiness

A major impact of the initiative lies in its relevance to Nigeria’s MSME sector. Many small businesses in food services, events, and tourism struggle to access skilled workers, which limits their growth potential.

By training young professionals, the programme helps to:

  • Improve service quality in MSMEs
  • Increase business efficiency and productivity
  • Enable small businesses to scale operations

Participants were certified under the National Skills Qualification Framework, ensuring standardised and recognised competency levels. This enhances their employability and credibility within the labour market.
