The Lagos State Government has strengthened its collaboration with the European Union to improve urban planning, transport systems, and sustainable infrastructure across the state.
The engagement, which took place in Ikeja, focused on developing integrated solutions for land use planning, transport corridors, and urban mobility systems that can support Lagos’ rapid population and economic growth. Both parties discussed the need for smarter infrastructure planning to reduce congestion, improve efficiency, and ensure long-term sustainability in one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities.
Officials from the Lagos State Government emphasized that the state’s continuous expansion requires forward-looking strategies that combine modern transport networks with effective land management. They noted that Lagos remains a key economic hub in West Africa, making structured urban development critical for future growth.
The European Union delegation expressed support for Lagos’ development agenda, describing the city as a major model of urban transformation in Africa. The EU highlighted its commitment to supporting projects that promote climate-resilient infrastructure, smart city planning, and inclusive transport systems. It also stressed the importance of integrating land use, mobility, and environmental planning to build more sustainable cities.

Following the meeting, both delegations visited key infrastructure sites including the Marina Train Station, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, Lekki Free Trade Zone, and Alaro City to assess ongoing developments and explore areas for future cooperation.
