NIPOST Reduces Delivery Costs for 20,000 MSMEs, Unveils Digital Marketplace Platform

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has introduced a 15 percent reduction in logistics costs to benefit more than 20,000 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) registered under the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer, Tola Odeyemi, disclosed this in Abuja during the 2025 World Post Day celebration themed “Post for People: Local Service, Global Reach.”

Odeyemi noted that the initiative reflects NIPOST’s renewed commitment to supporting small enterprises, improving trade logistics, and aligning with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda for inclusive and sustainable economic development.

According to her, MSMEs remain the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, contributing over 48 percent to the nation’s GDP. “By providing a 15 percent discount on logistics in collaboration with SMEDAN, we aim to help over 20,000 MSMEs reduce expenses, expand their reach, and compete effectively within the digital marketplace,” she stated.

She further revealed the launch of the NIPOST Digital Marketplace, an e-commerce platform created to connect Nigerian entrepreneurs with local and international buyers. The platform integrates logistics services, secure payment solutions, and order management systems to streamline online transactions and nationwide deliveries.

“Our vision is to empower small businesses and digital merchants to sell seamlessly online and deliver across the country. With this platform, NIPOST is bridging the divide between local producers and global consumers,” Odeyemi added.

She also introduced the NIPOST Agro-Infrastructure and Logistics Initiative (NAILI), a new project focused on strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural value chain by minimizing post-harvest losses, improving traceability, and broadening market access for smallholder farmers.

Through NAILI, NIPOST plans to establish modular storage hubs, logistics centers, and digital tracking systems across all 774 local government areas nationwide. The initiative is projected to impact over one million smallholder farmers and 3,000 agro-based MSMEs, reinforcing the government’s goals on food security and trade facilitation.

Coinciding with SERVICOM Week, Odeyemi reaffirmed NIPOST’s commitment to excellence in service delivery, transparency, and customer satisfaction. She also launched the “Face of NIPOST” brand ambassador initiative to promote the organization’s services and strengthen community connections across Nigeria.

“At NIPOST, we don’t just deliver parcels — we deliver opportunities,” she said. “The postal service continues to play a pivotal role in connecting Nigerians, offering solutions, and transforming lives.”

As NIPOST joined 193 member countries of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to commemorate World Post Day, Odeyemi reiterated the agency’s dedication to advancing digital transformation, fostering economic inclusion, and driving sustainable logistics solutions for Nigeria’s expanding MSME ecosystem.
