The National Information Technology Development Agency has announced its participation in the 13th regular meeting of the National Council on Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy taking place in Jos, Plateau State, with discussions centred on strengthening digital policies to better empower small businesses nationwide. The agency disclosed the development on its official X platform.
The meeting, themed Accelerating Inclusive Digital Transformation: Bridging the Gaps and Fostering Sustainable Growth Through Innovation, brings together government bodies, policymakers, innovators, and technology experts to analyse the digital constraints hindering micro, small, and medium enterprises. Across the country, challenges such as inadequate broadband coverage, expensive data costs, low digital literacy, and infrastructure shortages continue to impede MSMEs from adopting digital solutions capable of elevating their operations. Participants at the gathering are examining these issues while exploring updated policy measures aimed at removing these barriers.

The council is reviewing current national programmes and considering additional strategies to widen digital access and reinforce innovation hubs, especially in areas that remain underserved. Priority is also given to expanding digital skill development and enhancing the business environment for small enterprises seeking to scale through technology. Panel discussions and policy engagements are expected to help synchronise national efforts toward improving business competitiveness, widening digital market access, and ensuring SMEs tap into the vast opportunities within the digital economy.
NITDA’s involvement underscores the sustained drive toward a more inclusive digital landscape where small enterprises can fully harness technology to improve productivity, expand their customer base, and operate more efficiently.
