TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited, in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, has launched the 2026 edition of the VIA Safe Mobility for Young People programme, aimed at improving road safety awareness among secondary school students in Nigeria.
The programme will engage 600 students under the age of 18 across 30 public secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, and Rivers State. It is designed to address the risks faced by young people who commute daily through high-traffic areas or travel long distances to school.
According to the organisers, the 2026 edition builds on previous outcomes with a stronger focus on inclusivity, targeting students who are often excluded from safety-focused interventions.
Participants will be encouraged to identify road safety challenges within their communities and propose practical solutions through creative expressions such as art, music, poetry, and drama. The approach is intended to move students beyond basic awareness and position them as active contributors to safer environments.
Speaking at the launch, a representative of TotalEnergies noted that the initiative goes beyond education by equipping students with the knowledge and platform to promote safer mobility practices within their communities.

Globally, the VIA programme has reached over 900,000 young people across more than 40 countries, aligning with broader development priorities in education, public safety, and sustainable urban mobility.
The 2026 programme will run throughout the academic year and will conclude with exhibitions where participating students will present their projects. Outstanding contributions will also be recognised.
The launch of the 2026 VIA programme highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen road safety education among young Nigerians through practical engagement and community-focused solutions.
