UK-Nigeria Launch Creative Fund to Boost Skills, AI Use in Film, Fashion and Music Sectors

The UK-Nigeria Technology Hub has introduced a Creative Fund aimed at strengthening technical capacity and supporting digital transformation within Nigeria’s creative sector.

The initiative is focused on addressing long-standing gaps in skills and production infrastructure across film, fashion, and music industries, while encouraging the use of artificial intelligence in creative workflows.

The fund aligns with the UK-Nigeria Economic Transformation and Investment Partnership, particularly its Creative Economy Working Group, which is focused on expanding collaboration between both countries in the creative space.

Industry estimates show that Nigeria’s creative sector employs over 4 million people and contributes about $3 billion to the economy annually. However, challenges such as limited financing, skills shortages, and reliance on outsourced technical production continue to slow growth.

The Creative Fund is designed to support projects requiring advanced technical input, including post-production, visual effects, sound engineering, and digital design. It will also support access to tools such as AI-powered production systems, content distribution platforms, and digital asset management solutions.

Officials said the programme is intended to move beyond policy discussions into direct implementation by helping local creatives produce high-quality content within Nigeria rather than relying heavily on foreign services.

The fund will prioritize projects with strong potential for scalability, job creation, and industry impact. It will also place emphasis on inclusion by supporting youth-led initiatives, women-owned businesses, and underrepresented groups in the creative ecosystem.

Applications are open to creative enterprises, including studios, production companies, fashion brands, and music labels that demonstrate clear technical needs and a willingness to co-invest in their growth.

Selected participants are expected to explore innovative use cases for artificial intelligence in content creation and storytelling as part of their projects.

The programme is being implemented in collaboration with ecosystem partners such as Tech4Dev, with the aim of positioning Nigeria’s creative industry as a stronger contributor to the digital economy through technology and entrepreneurship.

The initiative also reflects wider efforts to localize creative production, reduce outsourcing costs, and strengthen Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global creative market.
