Zamfara Revives Public Transport with 50 New Buses to Boost Mobility and Economic Growth

Zamfara State has taken a major step in revamping its transportation sector with the commissioning of 50 brand-new 18-seater buses, unveiled in Gusau by Governor Dauda Lawal. The initiative, described as both a fulfilled promise and a legacy project, aims to improve mobility, enhance safety, and stimulate economic activity across the state.

The buses, equipped with air-conditioning, cushioned interiors, seatbelts, strong suspension, and GPS tracking, are designed to offer comfort, reliability, and real-time monitoring. Governor Lawal stressed that the launch marks the rebirth of the Zamfara State Transport Company, ensuring accountability and sustainability after years of mismanagement.

To safeguard the investment, the state established a new management framework and trained transport company staff — including drivers, mechanics, ticketing officers, and administrators — in modern transport management, ethics, and service delivery.

Highlighting Zamfara’s strategic location linking Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna, Abuja, Bauchi, and Gombe, the governor noted that reliable public transport will enable traders to access wider markets, students to reach schools, families to stay connected, and civil servants to travel more efficiently.

Governor Lawal urged citizens to treat the buses as public property, emphasizing that vandalism or neglect would undermine the collective benefit. He added that the new fleet will reduce logistics costs, expand market access for traders, and support small businesses, ultimately driving inclusive economic growth.
